Dean’s Vanlife Research
- Look into nederlands vanlife communities
- need to add my drawn vanlife design to here
Context (up to change)
I want to live in a van, and also use it for work
my van
- opel 2005
- 120000 KM
whats still needed?
- ventilation
- sunpannel
- smaller matres/replaceable ground
Social Concerns
Isolation:
Go to local vanlife community meetups to combat isolation.
Keep in contact with friends, if possible visit them with van.
Social outcast:
There is a certain possibility that people dont want to be friends with you anymore because you do sometings they consider weird,
if friends abandon you because of vanlife then they wernt real friends in the first place.
Design
need to link some example here.

Short Term
cant use a van, for freelance related activities, as it has to be registered for work if i want to use it for work?
it will be suspicious either way, if i work with it and live in it.
and also when i only use it for living (as people seeing a random white van going from place to place)
Mitigation:
Have a specific timeframe for work hours, and detail them, hours outside of that will be personal.
This has the benefit of tax reducal during work, and it not being a pure work van.
- To avoid serious issues, keep detailed records/docs/notes of everything (distance driven, how long worked?, ETC)
Add a few subtle(?) personal touches to the outside of the van to reduce suspicion,
im not sure if i have to mark my van that it belongs to me,
maybe something like my name and ads to the van.
If there is an accident with the van during work use, there is a higher possibility of an insurance claim being denied
core issue could possibly be solved with how uber works, they can use personal vehicle for work.
Long Term
-
Consult/ask for advice to experienced vanlifers, so i have to contact someone that does van-life, someone that can help with taxes, and someone for KvK.
For help and double checking if my findings are correct. -
van should be self sustaining? at least long term (water catcher, sun panel, plans?, sun panel)
-
Ensure the van is safe, so: ventilation, fire safety, electricity management, tool insurance.
-
Make the van sustainable, less suspisous, and more efficient, so:(depends large on what type im going to build though)
-
sunpannel + backup generator, wifi, water storage + disposal,
-
some paint/stickers on outside, (better) insulation, water proof, secure storage, camera,
(will split this up in a multistage plan)
Instead of still officially living with my parents, should probb instead consider a postadres or a shared address service(?)
(possibly through postnl?), this is to mitigate the risk with authorities.
https://www.postnl.nl/
- Continue registering as living with your parents if it works, but prepare documentation (idk what though)
- Build an emergency fund 🌱money_expensive_bank_investing
- Build a online presence (via this site, i still need to restructure this)
- Legal:
watch out for legal bullshit from the government, keep up to date with relevant laws.
