### The core move: separate "what stage is this thought at" from "where does it physically live"

That's the whole source of your confusion in `PKM_structure_ideas.md`. Zettelkasten answers the first question (a **process**, four verbs). PARA answers the second (a **place**, based on actionability). You've been trying to pick one system to answer both questions at once — that's why it hasn't clicked.

### Layer 1 — The Process (applies everywhere, to every note)

Every piece of writing in your vault, no matter the folder, is at one of four stages:

CAPTURE  →  PROCESS  →  CONNECT  →  CREATE
(fleeting)  (literature)  (permanent)  (draft/output)

- **Capture** — a pointer, half-formed, written fast, no polish needed. Your `inbox` folder, phone notes, journal entries as they're written.
- **Process** — you've engaged with a source (a book, an article, _or your own past journal/dream_) and written down what it says plus your reaction. This is where `How to Take Smart Notes. Notes.md` and your dream-analysis work sit.
- **Connect** — you've extracted a standalone claim, passed the three-part test (decontextualized / not-Wikipedia / atomic), and linked it to related notes. This is `00_01-zettel`.
- **Create** — permanent notes assembled into something for an audience: `03-blog`, a project writeup, a portfolio page.

This is the same funnel for _every_ domain in your vault — gardening research, philosophy, career notes, dream analysis. One process, applied everywhere.

### Layer 2 — The Place (your actual folders, relabeled by function not by vibe)

Notice: **PARA's four categories map onto your five existing top-level folders almost exactly.** You already built this. You just hadn't named the mapping, so it felt like competing systems instead of one system with clear layers.

### Layer 3 — The connective tissue (what was actually missing)

The one thing genuinely absent is a rule for **movement between folders**. Add this:

1. **Every top-level folder gets an `index.md` that acts as a MOC** — you already realized this ("map of content, are my index folders! how did I never realize that"). Formalize it: an index isn't a table of contents, it's a curated entry point linking only to the _matured_ notes in that area, not everything that's ever touched it.
2. **A note only moves folders when its stage changes**, not when you feel like tidying:
    - Inbox → Archive: you engaged with it (read it fully, or it's now a finished journal entry).
    - Archive → Zettel: it passed the three-part test.
    - Zettel → Blog: you're assembling multiple zettels into something for a reader.
3. **Quotes.md stays exactly where it is, as its own category** — a commonplace book isn't inbox, archive, or zettel. It's raw material you're deliberately choosing _not_ to process (you said so yourself: "actually linking/sourcing them is too much effort"). That's a legitimate, permanent fourth bucket — don't force it into the funnel.

### The one-line version, if you want it on a sticky note

**Capture fast in one inbox. Process sources (including your own past self) into archive. Extract only what passes the test into zettel. Build projects and blog posts by pulling zettels together — never by writing from scratch.**

my method

(only for the 00-raw folder, the rest is site oriented and not PKM focused)

pinboard for inbox/dump for articles, then filtered/high quality articles/references/snipits in the appropriate folder, high quality articles will go in the clippings folder.
and quostes will go in the commonplacebook(same)

    • clippings(mostly has copied pages i found interesting., via obsidian web clipper. (Need to change name))
    • dump/fleeting(the inbox)
    • knowledge?(for atomic/evergreen ideas)
  • projects(could make this ace or para)

learned things will go in the evergreen/references/atomic/zettel folder.(WIP)

workflow for note taking and thinking and capturing?

most small thoughts go into the inbox folder. some thoughts kinda group together so I have meta folders or notes for them.

this needs to be for like general structure, so what does vault rules serve?
do i wait with writhing notes otherwise i will just have to remove future stuff, no i will keep writhing
