Don't be Wikipedia

In a PKM, it’s easy to end up duplicating public knowledge that already exists elsewhere or is otherwise widely known.

Example

• A water bottle is made of water and a container.

There is little value in recreating that information. The value comes from adding your own thoughts, connections, tasks, or links to a concept.

Example

• Don’t just create a note for a book or movie. Include a short review, key takeaways, insights, or how it connects to other notes. A note that adds almost nothing beyond publicly available information is usually not worth keeping.

Recreating public knowledge is inefficient. Spend that time capturing original thinking, decisions, observations, and relationships instead.
